The first estimate is often written before anything comes apart.
Once a bumper or panel is removed, the shop can find damage nobody could see. Adding that repair to the claim is called a supplement.
Common hidden damage
- Cracked bumper absorbers and brackets
- Bent reinforcement bars behind the bumper
- Broken clips and mounts
- Damaged sensors or wiring
- A bent radiator support after a front hit
- A wrinkled trunk floor after a rear hit
How a supplement works
- The shop photographs the damage it found.
- The shop sends a supplement request to your insurance company.
- The adjuster reviews it and may inspect the car again.
- Approved work is added to the claim and the repair continues.
What it means for you
- The repair can take longer while the supplement is reviewed.
- Your deductible usually stays the same; it applies once per claim.
- You can ask the shop to show you the photos.
Skipping hidden damage can leave a car that looks fixed but doesn’t protect you the same way in the next crash.
